Let’s face it – who doesn’t love buying fabric!! I can not walk past a fabric store without going in and yes I even google fabric stores when I know I am going somewhere on holiday. Don’t believe a sewer if they ever deny this, it is a big fat lie.
I have put together a list of all the local places I buy from which I hope helps. I love Spotlight, they have a great variety and the fabric is reasonably priced as I only ever buy it when it is on special. I have had some great bargains and if you really look around you can find some great fabrics. I don’t mind Lincraft but the variety is limited but about 2-3 times a year they have a half priced fabric sale which I love as I stock up on all my basics. Definitely try the Castle Hill stores for both Spotlight and Lincraft, I always go when I have plenty of time as they can get very busy.
If you want something truly special then Tessuti Fabrics are to die for. They have a beautiful supply and I love them, especially for dressmaking. The Fabric Store in Surry Hills is a bit of a trek but their supply of linens and naturals is spectacular. They also have a great supply of Liberty and they are definitely cheaper than most for these.
For patchwork fabrics and cottons both Patchwork On Pittwater and Cottage Quiltworks have a fabulous selection and well worth a visit. Material Obsession is next to Birkenhead Point, hard to find but still a treasure trove.
For the most amazing supply of upholstery fabrics and material for lampshades then the Bargain Upholstery Store at Seaforth HAS to be a top of the list venue. They have rooms and rooms of fabric, in fact they have so much you tend to get a bit overwhelmed by the choice.
I hope this helps, the list also contains a couple of extras, and you can download it here.
